This is Tina, and she keeps me company at the lake. 
Last week when it was just the 2 of us, we worked on 2 quilts (still on my work-in-progress (WIP) list as unfinished objects (UFOs)) , some quilted postcards (which consumed the place and my life ever since) and an old rocking chair.
Tina is a gift from my Mother-in-law who is downsizing. She is a Singer 301, purchased in 1959. She came complete with a cabinet, stool, carrying case, instruction booklet, a variety of feet and even receipt.
It was the feet that interested me the most. There were feet I had never seen or used. A reflection of a time when straight stitching was it. Somehow you made do with what you had. And sometimes limitation forces creativity. 
How can you be creative with straight stitches? Most of these feet would have made the attachment of ribbons and lace easy, as used in heirloom sewing. Maybe one of these days, I will see how they work. I might even make a quilt with heirloom sewing in honour of my mother-in-law.
